INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Introduction
In keeping with our vision to celebrate the life of Marybeth Wangui, we have created an internship initiative. The purpose of this initiative is to equip young people with the business experience that will help them in their chosen career path.
We understand that in the communication sector, it can be very difficult for young people to be given the opportunities they need in order to excel. We hope that through this initiative we can help open doors that may not have been open before.
How the programme will work
The Foundation will accept applications for eligible young people, following the correct Trust processes. It will then shortlist candidates and interview these shortlisted candidates. Once a candidate has been selected to join the programme they will sign a contract with the Foundation. The contract will outline the expectations and inclusions of the agreement for both parties.
Programme inclusions and exclusions
The Trust undertakes the following:
- To assist the selected candidate in finding an internship opportunity in their chosen and/or appropriate field
- To pay the selected candidate a stipend for the duration of their internship
- To provide the selected candidate with ongoing career advice through the Foundation’s mentorship programme
- To provide the selected candidate with career advice as and when needing during their participation in the programme
- To treat the selected candidate with respect
The selected candidate undertakes the following:
- To be clear, transparent, and honest in all dealings with the Foundation
- To organize their own transport to and from the place at which the internship will take place
- To complete the internship, or provide reasons for the inability to do so. These reasons will be assessed on a case by case basis.
- To carry themselves in a manner that shows they value the opportunity including, but not limited to, arriving on time for the internship, doing their best during the internship, dressing appropriately for the internship
Should the selected candidate be unable to complete the programme, they need to notify the Trust immediately and provide sound reasons for incompletion. Depending on the outcome of these conversations the selected candidate may be required to pay back the stipend.
Members of Marybeth Foundation will do their level best to ensure this internship programme is the best it can be for the selected candidate.
Upon completion of the programme, the selected candidate will be part of the alumni network of the Foundation and may be called on to help mentor and assist other young people in the future.
